SMOS Second Mechanical Fitcheck Successful
The Launcher Adapter System for the ESA SMOS Mission [Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity], to be launched together with the PROBA II Satellite as a secondary passenger, was mechanically fit checked successfully on the 2nd of December 2008 at Thales Alenia Space in Cannes, France.
SMOS is an ESA Earth Observation Mission, developed in cooperation with CNES and CDTI, which objective is to provide global maps of Soil Moisture over lands and Ocean Salinity over seas. The SMOS Satellite uses a PROTEUS Platform built by Thales Alenia Space (Cannes) and the MIRAS Payload Module built by EADS CASA Espacio (Madrid).
