Impression of Archangel Area Excursion in Plesetsk Aera Have a Break Plesetsk Guide Living in the Archangel Region Plesetsk Cosmodrome is located at 63° N latitude and 40° E longitude in the Archangel region, 800 km northeast of Moscow and 200 km south of the city of Archangel. The region around Plesetsk is a typical Taiga landscape. Trips into the wildlife of Dvina Land will impress any visitor with its picturesque landscape and traditions of the Russian North. The town of Mirny, some 42 km from the Rockot launch area, in which technicians and engineers of Plesetsk Cosmodrome live together with their families, grew in parallel with the construction of the cosmodrome. Today around 40,000 people live on the banks of Lake Plestsy and the Emtsa River. When the first orbital flight was carried out in 1966, Mirny was awarded the status of a town. The average age of the inhabitants today is less than 30. The Cosmodrome's main supporting town features a well-developed social infrastructure with two stadiums and sports facilities for tennis, volleyball, basketball and a running track. Furthermore, the wooded area adjoining the lake outside the hotel provides a pleasant jogging area in the warmer seasons, whilst in winter cross country skiing is a favourite local pastime. Other areas of interest include the local market and the space museum. This excellent space museum is fascinating for any space buffs and depicts the 45-year history of the Cosmodrome. The town has an excellent transport infrastructure including air, road and rail links. Eurockot has modernised the "Rockot" Hotel where all guests and mission teams are accommodated. The hotel is of a good international standard with generously sized rooms equipped with modern communications equipment, satellite TV and private bathrooms. Conference and meeting rooms are also available. The climatic conditions are continental with a maximum winter air temperature of –35°C and a maximum summer time temperature of 35°C. The customer can travel by air via international airports in Moscow or Archangel or via rail through these two cities. Eurockot supports the customers and guests in all necessary formalities for custom clearance, in obtaining visas and transport permits from or to Russia and also for entering the cosmodrome area.
